The Other Facts of Life - Morris Gleitzman (1993)

Ben is approached by his father with the intension of teaching him 'the facts of life' however Ben is far more concerned with the plight of the starving, the oppressed and asks questions far beyound what his father expected.
As time passes and no-one seems to take Ben's concerns seriously, Ben takes it upon himself to change the world but his family struggle with his abrupt change in behaviour.
A story about the important things in life and the lengths one person will go to in order to make a difference. 'The Other Facts of Life' tackles several difficult and painful global issues with a light, jokey tone.
